On Thursday the 13th of October 4th Class were very lucky to be able to take a trip to Burrow beach to meet with Flossie and the beach cleaners. There, they did a workshop on the effects throwing rubbish on the beach has on the sea life and how plastic pollution is impacting our seas. Harriet, who was leading the workshop along with some volunteers from transition year showed us the variety of items that they have found during beach cleans and how these can cause harm to sea life. The children were then given bags and gloves and they spent 45 minutes picking up rubbish on the beach. We found all sorts of items such as plastic, cigarette butts, bottle caps, golf balls, string and a tennis ball. Together the children collected 6.5kg of rubbish which was incredible! They also got the opportunity to go on the VR headset and swim under the sea with turtles and other marine life. They had lots of fun, learned a lot about what they can do and felt really good about themselves for doing something positive for the environment.
